Let’s be honest. (HONESTY is ALMOST ALWAYS the hospitable thing to do.)
The world around us is raging and crying out with pain. We are facing trouble everywhere we look. War. Sickness. Financial trouble. Political strife.
In the midst of it all–hope prevails and is often found right where our feet stand.
It’s not so much the season to bring others in but we can surely do our best to make our home simply hospitable for us and our family.
For most of us, home has become, more than ever, the center of our hearts and the place we find safety and rest!
I have been thinking a lot about what makes MY home special to ME. Of course, there are countless ways. Too many to share in one blog post. I am starting with the first FIVE that come to mind but will share more another time.
I’m certain you can relate to a few of these or maybe you will want to check out one or two for yourself.
Here are my First Five (of many) to get this party started!
1. PILLOWS! I change out pillows for every season. It is an easy and inexpensive way to make everything look different without much, if any, new expense. When a season is over I tuck them into big black plastic trash bags and store them in my attic.
Ballard Designs has an online tutorial for choosing and placing pillows! I love their Stuff!
2. Candles. Oh my. I am rarely without an amazing scented candle glowing, regardless of the outside temp!
3. Decorating books!! Flipping through pages of ideas and inspiration is what I love to do on a rainy afternoon.
4. Speaking of rainy afternoons. One of my FEW splurge purchases and even occasional GIFT is McKenzie Child’s tea pots! I have a sweet black and white checked one that is perfect for a few cups of hot tea on a rainy, reading afternoon!
Last but not least–
I love cookbooks with stories.
I gather cookbooks from our travels and I collect cookbooks with every intention of healthy eating and being ready when the time comes to give up the YOGA PANTS!
But for now—I mean really–if we have to be at home we may as well try some fun new recipes.
